Incoming Airport Security Beefed Up
The US government is implementing health security measures at five airports after a man with Ebola flew here from Liberia. Extra screening for fever will start at New York’s JFK Airport this weekend. Newark Liberty Airport, Washington Dulles, Chicago O’Hare and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta will follow suit,
“Starting this weekend, though, JFK airport will use a non-invasive device to take the temperature of passengers, who also will fill out detailed questionnaires created by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”
The chances of people contracting Ebola and the disease spreading are “very slim,” Reuters reports.
Finally– airport monitoring.
Where Is Kim Jong Un?
The leader of North Korea disappeared a month ago, and this has raised concerns across the world. Un (31) hurt his ankle and knee during drilling and attributed it to his rapid weight gain after coming into power. Curtis Melvin, a researcher at the U.S.-Korea Institute at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington said,
“The longer he remains out of the public eye, the more uncertainty about him, and the status of his regime, will grow.”
If Un does not show up for Saturday’s celebration of North Korea’s 69th birthday, people will begin to speculate in earnest.
Wonder will happen if he’s a no-show?
Feelings Raw In Ferguson
Another black teenager died after an off-duty white policeman working private security shot him in St. Louis. Police reported that the teen fired three shots while the officer chased him. The policeman returned fire, firing 17 shots. The dead teen’s cousin said,
“He had a sandwich in his hand, and they thought it was a gun. It’s like Michael Brown all over again.”
Approximately 200 protesters gathered and marched into a major intersection, chanting, “Whose streets? Our street?” according to Reuters.
On The War Front – Update
Former Ambassador and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson told MSNBC this morning that Turkey as a member of NATO needs to step up to help in the war against ISIS. The terrorist group is fighting in Kobani, a city on the Syrian side of the Turkish border.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said,
“You can’t end this terrorism just by airstrikes. If you don’t support them on the ground by cooperating with those who take up a ground operation, the airstrikes won’t do it.”
The city is likely to fall.
Another Ebola Patient?
Health authorities have hospitalized one of the sheriff’s deputies who went into the apartment of the Dallas Ebola patient who died yesterday. The deputy fell ill Wednesday. Dr. Thomas Frieden director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said,
“The latest information we have is no definite contact, no definite symptoms”
The man did not have direct contact with the Ebola patient. And the hospitalization was out of an “abundance of caution.”
UPDATE: The Deputy Does Not Have Ebola. We Are Grateful.
